Top Ten Books that Inspired Me
by Sarah Castille

It’s hard to choose only ten books that inspired me because every book I read inspires me in some way, whether it’s a rich, detailed setting that takes me to a place I’ve never been, a heroine so well described I feel like I’ve made a friend, a hero so delicious I want to find one of my own, or a story that stays with me for days after I’ve finished the book. So here are ten of the hundreds of books that have stayed with me in some way:

Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward – This book had everything, a beautiful story, incredible world building, and boy did it make me cry.

Angel’s Blood by Nalani Singh – There are alphas and then there are angels. Raphael was the ultimate hero for me.

Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs. I loved this story about a broken shifter woman who comes into her own and the fierce warrior who saves her.

Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger – a beautiful, heart wrenching story about a man who can travel in time but can’t control his ability and the woman who loves him through the years

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – who couldn’t be inspired by such gorgeous writing, world building, deeply realized characters, and, of course, Jamie. Sigh.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – although not technically categorized as a romance, it has all the hallmarks of a romance, touching on finding your soul mate and first love, with lots of 80s references and incredible writing thrown in.

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby – I loved the movie with John Cusack and the book is even better with amazing insights on relationships and a message about how everyone you meet can have an impact on your life.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman – this is the ultimate story. It has action, romance, comedy, fantasy and a wonderful bromance between Fezzik and Inigo.

Stranger Music by Leonard Cohen – no one can put words together like the master of soul.

Breaking Free by Cherise Sinclair – no one can write BDSM like Cherise Sinclair because she effortlessly weaves a lush story and deep rich characters with the BDSM world.
